FAQ

Where do sessions take place?

During your pre-session consultation, we will discuss the type of images you want to create, and I will recommend locations that will allow us to achieve your vision. We can shoot at your favorite spot in your hometown, in your backyard, a forest preserve, or somewhere that just feels right.

How should I plan for my maternity session?

Most clients schedule their photo session between 32 and 35 weeks, depending on how much you are showing. You want to be visibly rocking a baby bump but still feeling comfortable. If this is a subsequent pregnancy and you already have at least one child, we may back it up to that 28 week point, depending on how you’re feeling and what your last pregnancy was like.

Self care is key! Eat something before the session, & bring water with you — no hangry or dehydrated mamas allowed! If you're wearing heels, bring along some comfy shoes for walking between locations.

Maternity is beautifully raw—it’s counting down the days while already mourning how fleeting this sacred season feels, all while learning to love the ever-changing version of yourself.Take this opportunity to get a little dolled up and pampered before your photo shoot. A manicure is a nice touch, as your hands will be holding your belly a lot.

What should we wear?

Coordinated outfits help create a cohesive look without making everyone match too much. Think about the location--outfits should enhance, not clash with, the setting. Stick to timeless styles and colors to keep your photos looking fresh for years to come. Here are some of my favorite color combos:

Neutrals with a Pop of Color: Beige, cream, soft blues with a touch of mustard or burgundy.

Earth Tones: Olive green, rust, deep brown, and tan for a warm, cozy feel.

Classic & Elegant: Navy, gray, and soft whites for a timeless look.

Seasonal Palettes: Pastels for spring, warm tones for fall, and cool blues for winter.

What should I wear for maternity photos?

First and foremost, whatever you are comfortable in! I encourage mamas to wear a long dress, gown or skirt for at least a portion of their maternity session--they elongate your body and highlight your baby bump, on top of making it super simple to pose you in flattering ways during the session. Keep in mind that some dresses, especially the form fitting maternity gowns photograph best with the proper undergarments. Try everything on ahead of time to make sure you have the right bra, slip or shapewear. If your partner is participating, neutrals with pops of color are always a great choice that photograph well.

What time of day do sessions take place?

I typically schedule sessions 1–3 hours before sunset, depending on the location and type of session. For Classic sessions, you’ll be my only client that day, allowing me to give you my undivided attention and create a relaxed, intentional experience from beginning to end.

What if the weather doesn't cooperate?

A few days per month will be held for sessions that are postponed due to weather. Should we need to reschedule due to weather, I will open up makeup dates to you.
